How Video Works on Instagram Today
Instagram used to run several video formats side by side: short Reels, regular videos in the feed, and longer videos under the IGTV name. Over 2021 and 2022 it retired the IGTV brand and folded these into one system, and new videos you upload today are generally published as Reels. Videos posted before that change weren't converted, so the account you're looking at may contain both newer Reels and older video posts.

Instagram has changed its link formats over the years, so the exact shape of a link can vary. If you paste a link and get no result, the tool may have been given a format it doesn't recognise, or the post may no longer be public. The troubleshooting guide covers both cases.
How to Download an Instagram Video
- Open the public video post in Instagram.
- Tap Share, then Copy Link.
- Paste the link into the box above and click Download Video.
- Preview the result, then select Download.
What You Actually Receive
The download is an MP4 video file with its audio already combined into it, the way Instagram plays it. You don't receive a separate caption file, comments, or a standalone audio track. If a post has a caption you want to keep, copy it from Instagram before you leave the page.
Older Videos and Long Videos
Posts from the IGTV era can be much longer than a typical Reel, and long videos produce much larger files. On a mobile connection, a big download can take a while, so if it looks stalled, check your connection and storage space before assuming the link has failed. Very old links, especially ones that used the retired IGTV format, may no longer lead anywhere if Instagram removed or changed the original page.

Does Instagram still have IGTV?
No. Instagram retired the IGTV brand and the separate IGTV app, and new videos are now published as Reels. Videos that were posted earlier remain on the account as regular video posts.
Is a video post the same as a Reel now?
For new uploads, mostly yes, since Instagram publishes new videos as Reels. Older videos posted before that change are still standard video posts, so you may see both on the same profile.
Why won't an old video link work?
Older links, especially from the IGTV period, can stop working if the post was removed, made private, or its page changed. Open the link in a private browser window to check whether it still loads without logging in.
